Replace worked with Cuningham Group to create the brand for a new hotspot within the community of Hastings Minnesota. The plan involved taking the abandoned Hudson Manufacturing building and converting the historic factory into a multi-use space. Being quite close to where the Mississippi meats the St. Croix, we named the property The Confluence.

 

The typography was influenced by letterforms found on some products The Hudson Manufacturing Company produced 50+ years ago. The historic building and it’s surrounding area provided the perfect content to create an illustration library to elevate the identity system. The nearby Hasting’s Bridge, was a unique graphic asset and was worked into our pattern library and showcased in a few of our advertisements. Once those pieces were all built, we started creating all the assets that this space would initially need.

Design Process

Right away, the unique shape of the cupolas that adorned the roof of the building were explored. We created a simple graphic, as well as, a more classical and detailed illustration for these unique assets. We also explored representations of the Hastings Bridge and the surrounding landscape of the space in our initial design work.
